Selena’s ‘ala prima’ paintings record the discarded remains of human detritus in the natural environment. The traces of the history and embodied remains of consumerism are contrasted against the landscape. The worn, deteriorating surfaces and faded colours of objects and detritus have developed their own organic quality, their own life. Her paintings are evocative of the instability of life and allude to the beauty and fragility of the natural environment.
